One week from tomorrow....

31 of us are headed off to our second Cruise for Sight to Alaska! Yay! We had such a great time two years ago on our first Cruise for Sight out of New Orleans to the Caribbean, we decided to have another one. Fun for a good cause! For those who'd like to find out more about it, here is the link to the Eye Foundation. Hopefully, there will be a third one in two years and I'm thinking Mexican Rivera. We'll have to wait and see.

I neglected to congratulate Emil for receiving the International President's Medal on Saturday. This is the second highest award that can be given by the International President. Very cool, huh? It was very well deserved.

Saturday night

Well, got done with the cabinet meeting, dropped Harold home, headed off to Michal's to pick up some paint for the boxes that I ran out of. Course, they didn't the the one I wanted but got one that hopefully's pretty close. Ended up picking a few other things, mod podge variety, a card magazine and a couple of dollar stamps. Then off to the grocery store to pick up a few staples, cereal, milk and ice cream (yes, it can be a staple here at home!).

The meeting was ok, but they neglected to take care of a couple of things, so not sure what's going to come of that. It's a wait and see, I think. I was able to bag up 8 of the boxes and gave 6 away. I need to finish 2 more, at least tonight to give 4 away tomorrow. The rest I'll either have to bring with me or send. They'll be going to my inlaws, anyway.

One more luncheon tomorrow and that's it for anymore committments for now.

The week so far...

Monday: On his way to pick me up from work, E hit a pallet on the road. It was that or the cars either side of him. Then coming home, a truck rolled down his window and told us we had a flat. Didn't even feel it until we started to pull over. So he started to change the tire and discovered that he didn't have the right thingy (whatever you call it) to remove the lugs off the wheel. Hmm. Lug remover? LOL!! So we called Michael (good thing he was off!). While waiting for him, a CHP pulled over to make sure everything was ok. After he left, a truck pulled over and asked the same thing. A total stranger. It amazes me that people will do that. But sure is a nice feeling. E had a meeting that night was was subsequently late. Not too late, so it was ok, until he came home with 130 frames that he (or will it be we?) need to put certificates in.

Tuesday: E went to get the tire repaired. They patched it up, but when Michael left for work, he told him it was flat again. Back to the repair shop and came back with the spare still on. Need to order a new tire. We had a board meeting. I need to finish my message for the newsletter and write an article on our Lion of the Year.

Wednesday: We had lunch brought in by the reps, so that was good. They bought Korean food and there was alot left over. Guess what's for lunch the next day? E was supposed to get the new tire, but it had come in to late to change it. Dinner meeting at Chevy's. Good turnout and the guest speaker was Don S. from the Lions Eye Foundation. Interesting speech about patients and where the money goes.

Today: Well, E went and got the new tire. Everything mentioned above still has to be done, as there wasn't time to do anything else. And I still have the memo boxes to finish up. Guess I'll be busy the rest of the day!

Tomorrow: Work. But it'll be an early day, since one of the docs is out of town. I have a return appointment to the eye doc to check on my contacts. I finally have them to where I can wear both lens and be able to read, but my distance sight is not as good. Have a bit of trouble reading signs. I might have to settle for this. We'll see.

Just a bit of tidbits tonight...

Well, not much news on the homefront. Took mom shopping today. She's walking ok, albeit slow and slightly shaky. I suppose she's doing good for having both second toes curled over, at any rate. IMed with my little brother today. He's hard at work making his club enjoyable for his customers. This is his place, if you want to check it out. Gotta hand it to him, to sell everything here and moving overseas alone. Well, he's got friends there, anyway, which is good.

Tomorrow night's our last dress up night for awhile. It's the Peninsula Council installation. They have a tradition, well, more like someone's idea to liven things up, so they say. So each year, the new presidents get to put on an outfit of sorts (last year was the jail thing, if you followed my blog, you'd remember that! LOL!). This year, again, no one knows what it'll be. However, I told Emil that if it was something stupid, I was excusing myself to go to the bathroom! Fun is fun, but let's not embarrass people, you know? Besides, I don't think a hula skirt or flower headgear would go well with the semi-formals. I think the style will somehow clash. I don't quite see how they're honoring the presidents in this manner. We'll see. I'll have to scope out the layout for my getaway as soon as I get there!!

Sad day today....

One of our patients that we really grown to like had been battling his illness for awhile. He and his girlfriend are both divorced with grown children. She'd been wanting to get married for some time and he always resisted, until recently. She came by the office Friday with pictures from her daughter's wedding and told us to save Sept. 14th. They were finally getting married! This past weekend, he was admitted to the hospital and he passed away this morning. So sad.

A funny for today...

TOP TEN Excuses - If You Get Caught Sleeping At Your Desk At Work:

10. "They told me at the blood bank this might happen."
9. "This is just a 15 minute power-nap like they raved about in that time management course you sent me to."

8. "Whew! Guess I left the top off the white-out. You probably got here just in time!"

7. "I wasn't sleeping! I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm."

6. "I was testing my keyboard for drool resistance."

5. "I was doing a highly specific Yoga exercise to relieve work-related stress. Are you discriminatory toward people who practice Yoga?"

4. "Why did you interrupt me? I had almost figured out a solution to our biggest problem."

3. "The coffee machine is broken..."

2. "Someone must've put decaf in the wrong pot..."

And the #1 excuse to say if you get caught sleeping at your desk.
1. " ...... AMEN!"

Send a message in a bottle

or get one back!

This has been interesting! You can send and get messages from strangers all over but be warned, some of them can be not so nice and some are just sad or funny. I've been sitting here with three windows open getting and sending messages.

Thanks, Perry!

Awards & Appreciation Night

This annual event is where the immediate past president honors and shows their appreciation to those who worked under their year. I don't have any pictures except 2 that I'm posting. The rest are on Emil's computer still. The flowers was from one of the members who was unable to attend my installation dinner. I didn't expect them and it was a sweet thing for him to do. The other was given to me by the past president which I totally did not expect, as she had given me a clock already that evening. I will post more pictures if I ever get them from him!

Layout

It seems that I haven't scrapped anything that has been club related, but last night I finally did. Everything with the exception of the photo was one of the awesome things we received from our convention in Salt Lake City from onepageintime.com. She asked that we do a layout with it and posted it at her site, which we've done. It was certainly a nice challenge to work with these papers, as I don't get to, plus it's hard for me to work with patterned papers. This photo was of Michelle doing her thing. We'd step out of the room for a minute and heard her giggling. This is what we saw. It's titled Mischievious and on the bottom right hand corner is a little metal tag that says "yea right"

Unfortunately, blogger is having problems with uploading photos again.

RABBITS!!!!

The first of each month a few friends and I would try to be the first person to yell "rabbits". It was a funny little thing we'd do, just for the heck of it. I've since lost touch with them, but on the first, sometimes I smile and think of them.
