White Cane Day

Today and tomorrow is White Cane Day around the district. If you see us this weekend with ballons and bottles for your donations, know that this all goes to pay for eye care for those who need it. Helen Keller spoke at a Lion's Club meeting and issued a challenge and to this day, we're still meeting it.

Did you know that the Lion's Eye Foundation is located at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco? They will be relocated to the old Jack Tar Hotel on Van Ness Ave. in the city after the buiding is remodeled. They will have a full clinic there.

Emil spent last Saturday at Monster Park. Not just to see the game (that was the perk) but he was one of many collecting eyeglasses to be recycled. He came back with a sunburn. Unfortunately, the 49ers lost the game, too.

Heather http://heatherdwhite.typepad.com/unwrapped/ is a pretty cool lady and I'm glad to have met her. I have to smile everytime I think of her screen name: Queen of America. I remember when I first saw that name on the CKMB boards I thought, gosh, there's a name for ya'! Eventually, on another board, I had the opportunity to meet some of these ladies there IRL and they are all just so awesome! Of course, there are the others who weren't able to make the trip to Utah that I am dying to meet, too! And there's Michele who really doesn't live that far from me, but since I don't drive, well, that says it all (and it's another story in itself). This is another person I really want to meet!

I got my ipod nano today! So very cool! So very small! I had a problem installing the software, but Michael came to the rescue and now it's charging as I type. Wonder how many CDs I can get into there? Guess I'll find out! LOL!!

Off to do my cleaning and other stuff.

Reports, reports, reports....

Yikes! Here I thought I was doing so well and then only to discover that I've forgotten to include several reports in my monthly reports that needs to be turned in! So here I was, last night working away on it, stopping only to watch Big Brother 6. Guess I'll be working on catching up the rest of the weekend!

What a disappointment to have Janey get evicted! I'm going to have to tape the final episode on Tuesday, since that's our meeting night. I'm so curious to see what the others have to say about the final two!

Well, the interesting thing of the day, if you want to call it that is that there was a power outage in our area at work today, so the building was pretty much evacuated around 2ish. Can you believe there were reporters there trying to take pictures and get a story? What story? There's a power outage (we haven't found out why, yet) and the reporters are trying to take our pictures of us telling others not to enter the building, since it's all running on the emergency generator and we didn't know how long this would last. We figured since we were on the 5th floor, most people would not want to hike it and so we closed the office. My co-worker called me last night to say the power went back on a couple of hours later and people were mad as most offices was closed. Guess we'll be very busy on Monday. I think I'm going to need to pick up a triple soy latte on Monday morning...

I finally broke down and decided to get an ipod. A black nano! I'm getting it engraved in the back with my name and underneath it will read " A Lion who scraps". I love to listen to my music, especially if I'm working (Sarah Brightman is on now, as I type) at home or scrapping or in the car. I'm planning to download alot of my cds and just let it go on random shuffle. 5-7 business days, so I should have it by the end of the month! Yay!

Another busy weekend...

Well, yesterday we had our second District officer's training class. It was interesting how each session in the same year could be so different.

After coming home, I had decided I needed to make something else in addition to the cards as a raffle prize for International Director candidate Dana Biggs' fundraiser.



I think it might be alittle hard to see, but it's an altered clipboard calender. Each month's page can be pulled out for notes and such and after next year, it still can be used for other things. It was fun to make and hope I will be doing more!

The fundraiser will be at Bay Meadows at the infield. They're having a barbeque picnic luncheon and raffle prizes (!!) so it should be lots of fun!
I'll have to let you all know how our bets on the horses go!



On a more somber note, today is the 4th anniversary of the great loss of lives at the Twin Towers and Pentagon and the those on the planes. I know we all have experienced changes in our lives in one way or another from that event. I remember that I had just woke up and the phone rang. It was Nina calling me to tell me turn on the TV. I remember I was so shocked and woke up Emil and we just couldn't believe it. He had to go to work, but since I was off, I didn't get anything done that day. I just sat and watched in disbelief and cried all day.
