More catching up...

Well, we had our Vice District Governor Maxine do an offical visitation a couple of weeks ago. It went well and at the same time, I received a plaque in the mail from on of the softball teams we sponsored. They won state champion! Then Emil made an offical presentation from the Lions Eye Foundation for 37 years of donations and support from our club. The last presentation was made to one of our members who had won a raffle awhile back for a Melvin Jones fellow. As our VDG was there, I asked her to present it. After all the order of business was over, we had alittle bit of fun. Harold's birthday happens to fall on April 15th (so how could we forget it?) so I asked everyone what that day was. First guess, of course was the taxes. Then Michael G remembered what it was and everyone asked how old he was. We all sang happy birthday, then the cake was brought out. Since he was 64, Michael D. had to sing "When I'm 64" and we had to stop him, otherwise the candles would have burned into the cake! It was fun!

And so this weekend, we're having our rummage sale. We had a scare that it wasn't going to happen, but it did. Thank goodness, we certainly could use the money!

Here's some pictures from the day....

This is why I'm proud to be a Lion and more catch-up

At one of the boards I like to read, I happen to catch a topic title about her little girl getting glasses. Course, I had to peek. Turns out the Lions club there had a vision screening at their preschool and this 4 year old little girl with eye issues was caught. Now she's got glasses and I'm sure seeing much better.

We put out our drop off boxes for glasses and for the most part, get good glasses and sometimes, maybe they think we can use it, but we get broken glasses, too. Every little bit certainly helps.

Well, today I get to take mom so we can get perms. It's three weeks to our convention, so I've been sitting here punching out keys in fun foam, but am almost out. Guess after we drop mom off, off to Michael's or Joann's to pick up more. We figured we'd need at least 300 goodie bags. Yesterday after I got off work, we stopped off at Costco and picked up cookies and candy to go into the bags. We have pens coming and will pick up water up there. Emil's also been busy making little pins say "Have you hugged a Lion today" and unfortunately, cut his finger working on the little suckers. He's also working on my scrapbook for the contest there, so hope that everything will be done in time! All I need now is to make sure someone can help us bring all this up, as the cookies and candy alone took up alot of the trunk space.

My dress for the "turn of the century" came, as did the crinoline slip. I tried it all on and boy, does it make me look ummm, how can I say this, bottom heavy! Guess I'm really glad I don't wear this everyday!

In June, we attend the Council of Governors. This will be where we'll meet all the new Vice District Governors and their spouses and this will be our council and the new District Governors will also be there with their spouses. We did meet some people at the last multiple district convention that will be here, so that will be nice to see them again.

In the first week of July, we go to the International Convention which is being held in Chicago this year. While Emil gets his training, I believe it's here that I also get to attend a class as to the proper conduct of the spouse. What, me in miniskirts and black fishnet nylons? LOL! I'm sure there's protocol to remember and all that. We had decided that while this is serious business, we HAVE to have FUN doing this. Otherwise, it'll make for a very grumpy few years.

On a personal note, my teeth seems to be going through this cycle of something going wrong. First my bridge broke (still haven't fixed it yet as they want to put implants in) but I had a root broken in a tooth that had to be repaired (took almost a week to feel human again) which was on the same side as the broken bridge. I have to avoid eating that side, so that worked out ok. Then I was supposed to get two crowns at my last visit, but didn't quite get there, as the tooth that was supposed to get a crown needed a root canal. So now I can't eat anything hard of either side, since it's still sore. Good thing for yogurt and bannanas and rice porridge.

My new pet and some catchup

Not new to some of you, but I just never got around to adding him in. He's Flyer, my little monkey for my friends at the monkey board. If you click on any part of the tree, he goes to it and you can also give him a bannana by clicking the little tab that says more.

So last Saturday we had the drawing for the new car. Over 140,000 (hope I remember that right, but it was ALOT!) tickets were sold and we had two winners from our city. So some lucky person got a new car (Chevy Colbalt). It's a pretty good fundraiser for all the clubs involved.

This coming weekend, we're headed to Visalia for the Eye Foundation meeting. I don't attend the meeting, only the dinner. So usually bring something to work on, read or watch some TV while he's gone. I got a list of scrap stores so I think there'll be time to scope one or three out before dinner.

I got a notice for jury duty at the end of the month, but forgot to send it in for a postponement. So I called first thing this morning. Nice lady let it go and gave me the postponement anyway.

I finally got my costume for the convention. It's supposed to be turn of the century theme and my dress is probably alittle earlier, (Edwardian is really not that popular!) more Victorian/Civil War/maybe Dickens with the high lacy/ruffly collar and a full skirt and sash. I had to get a crinoline skirt for underneath, too. Shoes won't match the outfit, but the skirt should be long and wide enough to cover it. Hope I don't trip over myself! Definite Kodak moment!!!

Now some bad news. I got a call from our daughter in Indianapolis today. Her apartment was broken into while she was at work and she lost her camera and laptop and some other electronics. Guess that was pretty much all they were after as they left the jewelery behind. I hope she gets it back, but I'm sure it's gone.
