A new member of the Kingdom!

We have just had a new addition to our Kingdom (private board for those who don't know). Audrey Nicole was born today, weighing 8 lbs. 8 oz. and 20 in. Congratulations to the new parents Baby T (hmm, maybe we should call her Mommy T now) and ML! She is just beautiful!

Canine Companion for Independence

Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization, training dogs to assist people with physical and developmental disabilities since 1975.

They have a program, where puppies are raised under guidelines from eight weeks until they are 13 to 18 months old. They are then returned to their regional centers where they will receive 6 to 9 months of advanced training. At this time, they are fully trained and they will then meet people who may eventually become their partners. The training with their partners is called Team Training and consists of 2 weeks of intense training.


It is at the end of this two week training when they have their graduation ceremony. On Saturday, 6 Lions and family attended their graduation in Santa Rosa. It was just wonderful and alot of tears were shed. Sorrow from those who had to give up puppies they raised for a year and joy from those who received the dogs for training, sorrow from trainers who gave up dogs they had trained, joy from those that "will have the dogs to make them whole".


You may wonder how much does all this cost? Between $10-12,000 per dog. How much does the graduate pay for their dog? $100 during the Team Training registration. The puppy raisers, trainers, and the generous donations of people, corporations and Lions pay for everything else.

Last Tuesday, one of our members, Ernestine Abrahamian received her life membership to Canine Companion for Independence. It was presented to her from George Habeeb, Trustee for Canine Companion.

Getting a bit behind...

Well, not much has been happening, other than meetings and such. We had a dinner meeting on Tuesday and Ernie received a life membership from . I'll have to add the photo later on that as tomorrow, we're going to their graduation ceremony. This will be our second visit and I have to remember to bring a bunch of kleenex. Last time we went, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. If there's a center near you and you can attend one of these, go! You will never forget it.



If you remember I posted earlier about the gift bags we sent for the Navajo children, I received two thank you notes from them. This was really exciting for us, well, me, anyway! I thought it was pretty cool to want to do this and have some of the Lions help me with it.

Seneca Update!

Ooops! Sorry for taking so long to report!

Seneca was born Tueday November 1st at 8:39PM weighing in at 9 lbs. 1 oz., and measuring 19.5 inches long. We were coming home from our dinner meeting, then. I didn't stay up to wait for the announcement, as I was just too pooped.

Congratulations to the White family!

We're going to be Cyber-Aunties!

Heather went into the hospital this afternoon. Now we wait for Seneca'a arrival!
