Installation Night!

RockYou slideshow | View | Add Favorite
Well, the night finally arrived. As you can see by the photos, it's pretty self explanatory. There's more photos, but these were all from Michael's camera that he & Ted used.
I have discovered why speakers have a glass of water at the podium. Cotton mouth! Wish I had one, well, maybe not. I think I would have spilled it. I was told my speech went alright (it's hard to tell from my side of things) except I didn't hold the mike closer to me. Duh, I was trying to put it in the holder but couldn't get the darned thing in, so gave up. Hopefully I'll never have to hold one again!

Poor Emil...

He finished making up my program two nights ago. Stayed up late just to finish it. He called me yesterday at lunch and said, ummm, did you look at the date on the cover of the program? Ummm, not really. I assumed it was correct. Well, no. It's off, like about by a year. He had dated it July 23, 2007. Way big ooops! So last night he reprinted it all. This time had had made a 4 page program and had stapled it with my MM staples (give it some color!) and he couldn't get the staples back into the same holes so threw everything out and started fresh. Going to have to do something special for him! What a guy!

4 more days...

I was asked today if I was nervous about Sunday. Do I have butterflies? Ummm, no. Dinosaurs....Teradactyls, to be more precise, I think.

Emil's printing out the programs for me right now. Yesterday and today was spent asking and getting hold of people to see if they'd do the pledge, song and invocation. Tables are set unless I get more last minute RSVPs. What is it with people? They were supposed to answer by the 11th and I'm still getting calls today? This has been a never-ending problem with functions, probably all over but seems to be a common occurance here. Guess I shouldn't complain this time, since it's my dinner!!

Flowers for the tables are being taken care of and I think someone's doing some other stuff (secret from me) so all we really have to do on Sunday is set out the programs and pins.

I've written my speech. Typed it out in 14 sized print so I can see it without squinting. Going to have to try and memorize it for the most part, so I'm not reading it and looking stupid. Gotta try to remember not to talk fast (I do if I'm nervous). I would have a drink prior, but it's probably not a good idea either. Asian flush is a dead give-away, plus I'd probably drink too much and end up under the table. Not a pretty sight.

So, yeah, guess I'm a bit nervous.....

WOW! This past weekend!

I'm here in body, but boy, was I tired! Wednesday, the day before leaving for our retreat, I find out I'm the only one that hadn't signed up for the card swap!! Mind you, I'm at work, too. Yow! So what do I do? I made cards that night after coming home, so ended up with only an hour's sleep before having to get to the airport. If I had been a tad smarter, I would have counted how many peopled signed up so I would have known earlier, but nope, I didn't! Silly me, next time I know better!

I met Michele at the curbside check-in and we chatted all the way until our arrival at Salt Lake and met Michelle (from Canada) there. From the time we got picked up by Shar and Nikki, it was pretty much a whirlwind of a weekend.

Thursday, we went shopping at different stores, then we all had the opportunity to participate in a focus group on scrapping. That was pretty interesting, then they fed us pizza. We also all made cards for Russell who's away on a mission (his mom's a hoot and one of the ladies in our group).

Friday and Saturday was classes and giveaways from various sponsoring companies. Those who've been to CKU know to go with an empty (large one!) bag as it gets filled with goodies. Same thing applies here! Anyway, the classes were alot of fun, as always and we learned alot. I finally got to make my first lunchbox (thanks, Kim!). Thanks to Shar, we ate really well, too!

Sad to say, the weekend went by too fast and it was time to go home. I think we all were pretty sleep deprived, but we had a blast!

I know you're wondering where the photos are and I will add them onto the slideshow, so keep your eyes on that. Thanks to Heather (I copied a couple of photos from your blog) for posting your review.

After coming home on Sunday, I had a dinner to attend that evening. It was the Governor's installation dinner. Good thing I had time to take a (long) nap before having to get ready for it. Fortunately, too, it was short and sweet so we were able to get home at a reasonable hour.

Last night, we had another dinner out, since we had to reschedule our family birthday dinner. We went to the Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant and pretty much ate everything! Guess we were all hungry!

My first meeting!

Well, it started at 7:30 and would you believe everyone was shocked (me included)that we were done by 8:25? There really isn't alot to report yet anyway, and some changes were suggested (bringing back the greeter who will be a secret until introductions and to divide the big projects into thirds so that more people can work on them) and it seemed to go over well. I suppose it could be reassesed in a few months or so to see how it goes.

Emil took pictures but hasn't downloaded them yet.

Two more sleeps and then it's time for Salt Lake City! Yay!

Lots to do!

I'm getting ready for our mini-convention this weekend (Thurs - Sun) and pretty excited about it. It'll be the second one here and hopefully more to come. Not sure whether it'll happen again since it's alot of work and I know how much work it is to get a convention together.

Anyhows, I'm really looking forward to this! Probably even more so than CKU, since this will be an intimate group of 18, more than last year and we all know each other from the MB. Shopping the first day, then classes. Ultra awesome!

We had our rummage sale Saturday. Didn't do badly, at least we have more than we started with, you know? But I did go sleeveless and that cost my virgin upper arms to be a nice and bright lobster red! Yow! Haven't been burned in ages! I just hope it doesn't peel.

Tonight should prove interesting! My first presiding meeting. I think I have all I need on my agenda with all kinds of notes to myself as to what I want to cover. Hopefully I don't forget to look at it!

***sigh*** Updated! Another update!

Never mind anything below this, as blogger is uploading photos now. I've decided to keep the slide show for now but since it only holds a max of 16 pictures, I'll just move things around until I get tired of doing it!

I decided to remove my original posting, since I've got the slideshow working properly now....

So check it out at the left, above the weather pixie. Thanks for looking!

All I have to do is work on the music again!

It worked!!

What, you wonder? Diet coke and mentos!
Anyhows, the first try (after a false start) it shot up about 10 feet.
Second time, about 15 feet
and the last time, it hit about 20.
Pretty cool, but it goes pretty fast!
