Gosh, I can't believe the year's almost over. It has been pretty busy and seems to have gone by in a wink of an eye. It seems everyone's doing a year in review, so here's mine:
January - Officially, it was the beginning of my second year as a Lion. 5 of us from the club (Michael, Nancy, Shirlee, Barbara and I) went to Pomona and took the Leadership Institute course. Emil had taken it a few years earlier and encouraged us to go. It was amazing. We learned alot and probably the worse thing was the 2 minute speech we all had to give! I did OK, but my mind did go blank for a second, but luckily I was able to get my focus back.
February - My birthday! It was also on the same day as Chinese New Year, and we got the day off. It was also Perry's birthday, so we had to celebrate long distance. We went to a crab feed and ate like pigs! We had loads of fun! They had raffle prizes and I won a $50 gc for the local grocery store.
March - Calm before the storm! Preperations for convention. Meetings on club and district level and rehearsals and working on the club album.
April - Yearly cemetary trip to visit our family members who are no long with us and cleaning of their headstones. Dinners galore! YCA ticket drawing, Police & Fire Awards on top of our dinner meetings! Then I also had to finish up the club album. It was a definite weight gaining month.
May - Another busy month! My first CKU! I couldn't believe how much stuff I ended up with. And had to send a box back! It was one of the most fun times I had in a long time! A funny story. At the airport headed to CKU, everyone got stopped at security to show ID. So I did. They asked me for another ID. Why, I asked. Because your's is expired. Uh-oh! I'd been so busy I'd forgotten to have it done before my birthday in February! So I had to go get the pat-down and my bag peeked though. I guess I looked innocent enough, so off I went. Coming back, I was alitted worried about the security again, but they didn't even catch it, so I was ok. Michelle came down as her buddy was graduating from college. Didn't get to spend much time with her, which was too bad. We also had Junior Olympics. That's always fun to see the kids run, jump and throw! This was also Emil's big birthday! I had a surprise dinner party for him. It was just great and yep, he was surprised!
June - District Officer's training class. Didn't really learn much new here. Just that they decided to make it in such a way that there's more paperwork for us. I thought this was supposed to be fun! :>( Attended a baby shower for Nina. Made my second bilingual baby album, this time in Italian and English. That was an interesting project. Concours D'Elegance car show. We had our steak sandwiches and nachos and I didn't even have a chance to check out the cars! Mom, Ted and Michael had birthdays. We had dinner out.
July - Governor's installation dinner. That was nice, as the governor had Lion dancers perform (our idea for him to get them!) It was a real nice touch, especially since we were at the head table so we had the best seats in the house!
Our retreat. Ah, that was like a mini-CKU but again, I came home with so much stuff! I had a blast meeting all the ladies that I had been chatting with on-line for all this time. Some of them taught classes (they were great!) and we had a couple of surprise teachers come in. That, was a real surprise and treat. Can't wait for next year's! Vince's birthday this month, too!
August - We had a relaxing weekend out of town. It was fun and my first time to see stock car racing! That was exciting! More dress-up dinners this month! Installation for Peninsula Council and charter dinner for a new club. It was also cousin Lisa and Milton's wedding. They had it in their home and Vince got to perform the marriage ceremony.
September - this was a relatively quiet month. Another leadership class and the Fog Fest Parade. I saw the doctor for my wrist and just as I had suspected, nothing could be done. My muscles are all hyperextended so will always have problems with them.
October - Awards night. That was special for all the people recognized for all their hard work they did last year. Emil and I celebrated our 35th anniversary with friends. A total relaxing day at Half Moon Bay. Then we had the golf tournament. I don't play and I guess they had enough help, so didn't have to go. We had our first preliminary meeting for the District Convention. Then Emil and I went to Reno as he had the quarterly meeting for the Eye Foundation. I got alttle scrapping done, visited the SB store and picked up a few goodies.
November - Canine Companion graduation. That was a tear-jerker ceremony. One of our members got a life membership. Another District Convention meeting. Busy, but not as hair-pulling busy.
December - This was a busy month! Cabinet meeting, tail-gate party, 49ers game (which we didn't go to, too tired!), dinner with friends, club Christmas dinner. This year, I decided to make Christmas gifts. Well, I made a bunch of memo cubes (one the things we did at the retreat) and I also made altered clipboard calanders (two of which were given away for raffle prizes couple of months earlier) and Christmas cards. On top of which I had to update the flyers and application form for the convention in May and get a bunch of the flyers printed so they could be given to the next person in line to send them all out. As of this moment, I have 140 flyers left to print, but quit since I'm out of ink! I don't have to be back to work until the 4th, so tomorrow, it's off to pick up more ink cartridges, a 2006 calender (need a big one for this!) for my desk for all the upcoming appointments Emil and I have.
